English: A.J. White's Department Store at 236 Tuam Street was built for A. J. White (1838–1895), who established a prosperous business as a furniture and furnishing retailer. The building opened in 1879 and was later owned by the furniture store McKenzie & Willis. Prior to its demolition, it was registered as a Category I heritage building with NZHPT, with the registration number 4386.
