The city site states: The mosque, located across the Roman bridge, was named Alaaddin Mosque because it was built during the reign of Alaaddin Keykubat, one of the Seljuk sultans who reigned from 1220 to 1237. It is also known as the Central Mosque, as it is in the very center of the city.
