English: Alma Mater by Daniel Chester French stands in front of the Low Memorial Library on the Monringisde Heights campus of Columbia University in Manhattan, New York City. The 1903 bronze statue, installed in 1904 and donated in memory of alumnus Robert Goelet of the Class of 1860, Alma Mater has become a symbol of the university and a part of its lore. It was gilded in 1962, but protests caused the gilding to be removed. (Source: AIA Guide to NYC (5th ed.))
