Monument Tongern 2000 in Köln
English: Monument(s) on the occasion of the 2000th anniversary of Tongeren (Belgium) in 1985, designed by Raf (Rafael) Verjans. The monument consists of two large concrete reliefs that depict each other's positive and negative, depicting pilgrims. In 1985 the mother statue was placed and inaugurated in Tongeren. Through a large-scale project, with financial support from the European Union, ten copies of the statue were cast and offered to sister cities with a demonstrably 2000-year-old Roman history: Nijmegen, Maastricht and Heerlen in the Netherlands; Cologne and Trier in Germany; Tournai and Arlon in Belgium; Metz and Bavay in France and Rome in Italy.
Nederlands: Monument(en) ter gelegenheid van het 2000-jarig bestaan van Tongeren (België) in 1985, ontworpen door Raf (Rafael) Verjans. Het monument bestaat uit twee grote reliëfs van beton die elkaars positief en negatief verbeelden, er zijn pelgirms afgebeeld. In 1985 is het moederbeeld in Tongeren geplaatst en ingehuldigd. Via een grootschalig project zijn met financiële steun van de Europese Unie zijn tien kopieën van het beeld gegoten en aangeboden aan zustersteden met een aantoonbaar 2000 jaar oude Romeinse geschiedenis: Nijmegen, Maastricht en Heerlen in Nederland; Keulen en Trier in Duitsland; Tournai/ Doornik en Aarlen in België; Metz en Bavay in Frankrijk en Rome in Italië.
