English: Bus 142 is an International Harvester bus formerly used for local transit in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was abandoned by a construction company in a remote area eventually incorporated into Denali National Park and used thereafter for shelter by hikers and hunters. Christopher McCandless spent several weeks living in the bus in 1992 and eventually died there of poisoning-induced starvation. After many years of misadventures by tourists who were inspired to visit the bus by the book and film Into the Wild, which included at least two deaths, it was removed from that location by the Alaska National Guard on June 19, 2020 and shipped to the University of Alaska Museum of the North to be restored for use in an outdoor exhibit.
