Situa-se no interior das muralhas do Castelo, a Norte da alcáçova, a ocidente da Igreja Matriz, e a oriente de um cemitério moderno. Durante a época romana, terá sido aqui onde se situava o fórum. Entre os séculos V e VIII d.C., nos finais do período romano, este espaço foi ocupado por edifícios religiosos cristãos, numa plataforma artificial sobre um criptopórtico, e que eram ricamente decorados com mosaicos. Nos séculos XII e XIII, durante o domínio islâmico, foi um bairro, e depois da reconquista cristã, em 1238, passou a ser um cemitério. Este local está integrado no núcleo museológico da Alcáçova e Casa Islâmica
English: Archaeological site in the town of Mértola, in the region of Alentejo, in southern Portugal. It is located inside the walls of the castle, to the north of the citadel (alcáçova - Kasbah), to the west of the Main Church, and to the east of a modern cemetery. During Roman times, this was probably where the forum was located. Between the 5th and 8th centuries AD, at the end of the roman period, this space was occupied by christian religious buildings, on an artificial plataform over a cryptoporticus, and that where richly decorated with mosaics. In the 12th and 13th centuries, during Islamic rule, it was a neighborhood, and after the Christian reconquest, in 1238, it became a cemetery. This location is part of the Alcáçova and Casa Islâmica site of the Mértola Museum.
