Der Kanton Tessin umfasst 176 politische Gemeinden (Stand 5. April 2009). Die Gemeinden des Kantons sind in circoli (Kreise) zusammengefasst, die circoli wiederum in distretti (Distrikte resp. Bezirke). Bestandesänderungen der Gemeinden und Kreise sind auf den einzelnen Bezirksseiten erfasst. Im Kanton Tessin finden seit 2004 verstärkt Gemeindefusionen statt.
