English: The Cocking History Column is a 292cm high bronze column on a 165cm Portland stone plinth, located in Cocking, West Sussex. It was commissioned by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Nationwide Building Society as part of Cocking's Millennium celebrations and the West Sussex Parish Maps Project. According to publicsculpturesofsussex.co.uk: the column has "48 low relief bronze panels that wind their way downwards in a spiral recoding history from the Bronze Age at the top to the Millennium at the bottom. Twisting around the column between the panels is a narrow ribbon of national history giving context to the Cocking events. Beneath the column on the Portland stone base are inset two bronze relief parish maps facing north and east." The column was the suggestion of sculptor Philip Jackson, who is a Cocking resident, with local residents creating the panels with his supervision. It was unveiled on 15 April 2005 by Lady Cowdray.
