Managed as traditional hay meadows, with grazing following the cutting of the hay in mid to late summer, this reserve is known for its good population of green winged orchids; appearing as a thick carpet of pink across the fields in the month of May. As summer follows spring the grass and flowers of the meadow grow tall, coming alive with butterflies, bees, day flying moths and grasshoppers. Thick, bushy hedgerows with plenty of large, old oak trees shelter the field and provide additional habitat for birds, mammals and invertebrates of shrubby places.
