The category defrosting on Mars contains images of what the surface looks when Mars is warming in the spring. At that time, frost is leaving the surface and exposing the underlying dark basalt. Also, in places there are "spiders" a type of geyser in which pressurized gas blows out of a weak spot and carries with it dark dust. If a wind is blowing during the eruption, the geyser is shaped into a dark streak.
