English: The city of Derbent — in Republic of Dagestan, in the North Caucasus region of southwestern Russia.

Located on the the western shore of the Caspian Sea, north of the Azerbaijani border. It is the seat of the Derbentsky District.
Derbent claims to be the oldest city in Russia (8th century BCE), and was re-established as a Sassanid city (c. 6th century CE) in the Persian Sassanid Empire.
A modern city with archaeological sites, and UNICEF designated World Heritage Site.
