Eilean nan Caorach is the largest island of an archipelago separated from the Ard at Port Ellen by the waters of the Caolas Eilean nan Caorach. Also in the archipelago is Sgeir Phlocach, Sgeir Thraghaidh and about a dozen unnamed islets and skerries. The end of the submarine ridge is marked by the Port Ellen buoy.
