The original 1903/1904 record of Entoloma farrahi was re-examined in 1948, and it was judged that this is a dubious identification. It is probably a variety of Big Blue Pinkgill (Entoloma bloxamii), called Entoloma atromadidum which has the same indigo-black colouring. The problem with the 1904 identification was that the spores were drawn as smooth, when they should be angular - and that drawing could have been an error. Therefore the judgement of "dubious" is incomplete, since it may still be possible to identify this as Entoloma atromadidum, if that variety were to be found on the same site.

For that reason, this species can retain its categorisation as Entoloma farrahi, with additional categorisations until it can be identified officially - possibly as Entoloma atromadidum.
