In plant systematics, eudicots is used in the APG II system (2003); it is the name of a clade in the angiosperms, the flowering plants. The clade eudicots consists of
- three to five families: Buxaceae [+ Didymelaceae ], Sabiaceae, Trochodendraceae [+ Tetracentraceae ]
- two orders: Ranunculales, Proteales
- the clade core eudicots
The clade eudicots contains roughly the same plants as the joint subclasses Caryophyllidae, Dilleniidae, Hamamelidae, Rosidae and Asteridae in the Cronquist system, of 1981. It contains the bulk of the former dicotyledons. Also see Rosopsida, the name used in the Strasburger classification system for this group.
