English: Euterpe was a steel-hulled four-masted barque built in 1884 by Barrow Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness for B. Wencke Söhne, Hamburg. Dimensions: 290.6 × 42.6 × 23.8 ft (88.5 × 12.9 × 7.2 m). Her tonnages were 2,146 GRT, 2,069 NRT, and loading capacity 3,200 tons. A cargo of coal exploded 1902 some 50 miles WNW off Lizard Point and ripped up the maindeck and killed seven people of the starboard watch. Survivors were saved by the steamship Rydal Hall.[1][2][3]
