Extra Place is an official and signed NYC street which runs for less than a block north of East 1st Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery in Manhattan, New York City. The street's southern half has been integrated into the Avalon Bowery Place buildings, which were built in 2005 and designed by Arquitectonica and Schuman Lichtenstein Claman and Efron. The street's name derives from being the "extra" parcel left over when Philip Minthorne's 110-acre farm was divided up between his 9 children in 1802. Plans have been announced to develop Extra Place as a pedestrian mall. (Sources: The Street Book, NYC GIS map, "Avalon Bowery Place")
