Čeština: František Coufal (* 1892–1941) byl profesionální voják, který prošel boji první světové války na ruské a italské frontě, během kterých byl zraněn i zajat. Jeho další vojenské aktivity v období mezi světovými válkami jsou spojeny s jižní Moravou, Znojemskem a Prahou. Z nízkých velitelských pozic a hodností se postupem času propracoval až na hodnost podplukovníka zastávajícího vysoké štábní funkce. Ve třicátých letech dvacátého století strávil část své pracovní náplně jako pedagog přednášející na Válečné škole v Praze. Za protektorátu se zapojil do vedení vojenské ilegální organizace Obrana národa (ON) při budování struktur její "podzemní armády". (Historiky je charakterizován jako jeden z tvůrců organizační struktury ON.) Zároveň fungoval jako spojka mezi ON v Praze a moravským Zemským velitelstvím ON s centrem v Brně. V létě roku 1941 byl zatčen gestapem, vyslýchán a dva měsíce vězněn, aby byl nakonec v rámci tzv. prvního stanného práva za protiříšskou činnost odsouzen k trestu smrti a okamžitě popraven. Po skončení druhé světové války byl (in memoriam) povýšen do hodnosti plukovníka generálního štábu.
English: František Coufal (* 1892-1941) was a professional soldier who fought in World War I on the Russian and Italian fronts, during which he was wounded and captured. His other military activities between the World Wars are connected with South Moravia, Znojmo and Prague. He rose from low command positions and ranks to the rank of lieutenant colonel holding high staff positions. In the 1930s he spent part of his working life as a lecturer at the War School in Prague. During the Protectorate, he was involved in the leadership of the military underground organization Obrana Naroda (ON; Defence of the Nation) in building the structures of its "underground army". (He is characterized by historians as one of the creators of the ON organizational structure.) At the same time, he functioned as a liaison between the ON in Prague and the Moravian Provincial Headquarters of the ON with its center in Brno. In the summer of 1941, he was arrested by the Gestapo, interrogated and imprisoned for two months, and finally sentenced to death for his anti-rightist activities under the so-called first martial law and immediately executed. After the end of World War II, he was promoted (in memoriam) to the rank of colonel of the General Staff.
