Deutsch: Franz Anton Beckenbauer (* 11. September 1945 in München), auch Der Kaiser genannt, ist einer der Vizepräsidenten des Deutschen Fußballbundes (DFB) und war Präsident des Organisationskomitees der Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2006. Er war bis 1983 als Profifußballer tätig und hatte den Ruf eines internationalen Ausnahmeathleten. Nach seiner aktiven Karriere als Fußballer war er als Fußballtrainer und Sportfunktionär, Werbeträger, Geschäftsmann und einflussreicher Kolumnist tätig.
English: Franz Anton Beckenbauer (born September 11, 1945) is a German football coach, manager, and former player, nicknamed der Kaiser (“the emperor”) because of his elegant style, his leadership qualities, his first name “Franz” (reminiscent of the Austrian emperors), and his dominance on the football pitch. Beckenbauer is widely regarded as the best defender in history and one of the best players of all time . He was a versatile player, who started out as midfielder but adapted to different roles on the pitch, and he is often credited as having invented the role of the modern sweeper or libero (SW).
