English: The French Revolution ( 1789–1815) was a period of political and social upheaval in the political history of France and Europe as a whole, during which the French governmental structure, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for the aristocracy and Catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on Enlightenment principles of democracy, citizenship, and inalienable rights. These changes were accompanied by violent turmoil, including executions and repression during the Reign of Terror, and warfare involving every other major European power.
Español: La Revolución Francesa fue un proceso social y político que se desarrolló en Francia entre 1789 y 1799 cuyas principales consecuencias fueron la abolición de la monarquía absoluta y la proclamación de la República, eliminando las bases económicas y sociales del Antiguo Régimen. Esta revolución será considerada como parte de las revoluciones con connotación burguesa, y la pionera e inspiradora de las que la sucederían durante el siglo XIX.
