In 1896, the Canadian photography company of Gauvin & Gentzel was founded in Halifax, Nova Scotia by partners Adolphe E. Gentzel and George A. Gauvin. Gentzel relocated to Winnipeg in 1905, carrying on the business under the Gauvin Gentzel name. Both studios were still operating as late as 1912. THe Halifax operation continued for several decades under Gauvin (1863-1933) and his son and successor of the same name (1898-1951).
