In 1896, the Canadian photography company of Gauvin & Gentzel was founded in Halifax, Nova Scotia by partners Adolphe E. Gentzel and George A. Gauvin. Gentzel relocated to Winnipeg in 1905, carrying on the business under the Gauvin Gentzel name. Both studios were still operating as late as 1912.
