English: Geared rack jacks, where a mechanical gear system is used to wind a pinion against a straight rack gear. Most commonly used in German-speaking countries, and also unseen in English-speaking countries where they are regarded as unreliable and unsafe, owing to a lack of inherent positive locking against descent as a screw jack provides.
