English: The grave of Patrick leigh-Fermor in the churchyard of St Peter's church, Dumbleton. The Greek epitaph is a line from Constantine Cavafy's poem Epitaph of Antiochos, King of Commagini (Επιτύμβιον Αντιόχου, βασιλέως Κομμαγηνής). The Greek inscription reads «Υπήρξεν έτι το άριστον εκείνο, Ελληνικός», whose English translation sounds like «In addition he was that best of things, Hellenic»[1], or «He has been, also, that best of all things: Greek-cultured»[2]. Other translations are: «In addition he was that best of things, Greek», and «He was the best of things, a Greek».
