Sir Lewis Anselm da Costa Ritchie

Pseudonym: Bartimeus

Sir Lewis Anselm da Costa Ritchie (1886-1967). His birth name was Ricci, anglicized by deed poll in 1941. He served in the Royal Navy from 1901 until the Second World War and retired as captain of the royal yacht. He was press secretary to King George VI from 1944 to 1947. The biblical Bartimaeus was a blind beggar cured by Jesus (Mark 10); Ritchie was blind in one eye.[1]
