English: The monastery's library of Valldemossa. Each monk could take a maximum of three books to his cell. The community would meet here, presided over by the prior, to discuss matters of general interest. Tradition has it that the meetings were held Thursday afternoon, for half an hou, this being one of the few opportunities during the week that the rules of the order permitted the monks to speak to one another. On the shelves are collections of pharmaceutical jars, small statues of various saints, armillary spheres which the Carthusians used in their studies of astronomy. On the walls are three ceramic collections from Alcora (Castellón), Catalan of the 18th century (plates and shaving dishes, commonly called "Cerecita" and from Teruel.
