മലയാളം വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ പത്താം വാർഷികത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കണ്ണൂരിൽ നടന്ന വിക്കി വിജ്ഞാനയാത്ര, വിക്കി വനയാത്ര എന്നീ പരിപാടികളുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ. 2012 ഡിസംബർ 8, 9 തീയതികളിലായി പാലയത്ത് വയൽ ഗവണ്മെന്റ് യു പി സ്കൂളിൽ വെച്ചായിരുന്നു പരിപാടി. വിജ്ഞാനയാത്രയുടെ ഭാഗമായി പേരാവൂർ ഭാഗത്ത് ചരിത്രപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ചില ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ, വനവിജ്ഞാനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ, കുറിച്യ കോളനികൾ, ഗോത്രവർഗ്ഗസംസ്കൃതിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട മറ്റിടങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ സന്ദർശിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. വനയാത്രയുടെ ഭാഗമായി പെരുവയിൽ നിന്നും കൊളപ്പയിലെ കുറിച്യന്മാരുടെ ഗോത്രഗ്രാമത്തിലേക്കു് നിബിഡവനത്തിലൂടെ നടത്തിയ യാത്രയിൽ സസ്യ-ശലഭ-പരിസ്ഥിതി ഗവേഷകരുടെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം യാത്രയെ അത്യധികം വിജ്ഞാനപ്രദമാക്കി മാറ്റി. വിക്കിപ്രവർത്തകരും ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞന്മാരും അദ്ധ്യാപകരും അടക്കം മുപ്പതിലധികം പേരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു പര്യടനസംഘത്തിൽ.

These photographs were captured during the "Wiki Vijnjana Yatra" (Wiki Knowledge Expedition) and "Wiki Vana Yatra" (Wiki Jungle Expedition) conducted on 8th and 9th of December 2012. The program was the curtain-raiser event among the series of celebrations related to the tenth anniversary of |Malayalam Wikipedia. The venue was centered around Govt. UP School, Palayathu Vayal where some 170+ students and their dedicated teachers have set up their own TV news channel, a mathematics lab, a post-office (run by the students), a museum (exhibiting tribal tools and crafts, historical objects and forest products) and a forest plants nursery all within their remote location and highly limited resources.

The program consisted of

  • a fast tour of important landmarks around the dense tropical evergreen and deciduous forests of Kannur district, Kerala, in South India,
  • an introductory presentation of Wikipedia (and other Wikimedia projects)to the aspiring users from locals and invited subject-matter experts,
  • an evening and night of intense interactions between Wikipedia users and other participants focused on Wikipedia

and

  • a slow-paced walking study tour through the forests to a colony of ancient tribal community at Kolappa where they still retain a notable culture amidst
  • acquisition and documentation of important landmarks, cultural artifacts, species of flora & fauna and the event itself into Wikimedia

The volunteers used this event as an intensive channel to spread the message of Wikipedia among common public. The expedition team consisted of more than 30 persons among which were several Wikipedia contributors, school teachers and experts on plants, insects and tropical forest environment and the tribal sociology.
