- The Courier for Hell Meido no hikyaku 冥途の飛脚 is a play written 1711 for a puppet theater 文楽 by Chikamatsu Monzaemon 近松門左衛門. It tells of the double love suicide (shinjū 心中) of Kameya Chūbei 亀屋忠兵衛 and the courtesan Umegawa 梅川. This play was quickly adapted to kabuki under various names, for example, Koi no Tayori Yamato Ōrai 恋飛脚大和往来.
