This category contains military map symbols for neutral units and formations. Use of green and the square shaped frame were both introduced in NATO's APP-6A standard to indicate a neutral unit, while the original APP-6 standard depicted all units in rectangles regardless of allegiance. In that original APP-6 standard, green was presented as an optional colour for friendly forces on computer systems that did not offer the colour blue. Green symbols with rectangular frames have also been used even after the publication of APP-6A to depict partnered nation forces on security force capacity building missions.
