English: Niijima Yae (新島 八重, December 1, 1845 – June 14, 1932), whose old name was Yamamoto Yae (山本 八重), was a Japanese woman during the late Edo period, Meiji era, Taisho era and early Showa era, and the wife of Joseph Hardy Neesima (Niijima Jō) who played an integral role in the founding of Doshisha University.
