"In 1952, Hengel decided to expand his concertina repair business and went to Chicago to purchase equipment from Otto Schlicht, the preeminent concertina maker in the region. Schlicht starting making concertinas at the Rudy Patek shop in 1917 and then ran his own shop, the Patek/Pearl Queen factory, until 1950. After the shop closed, he stored all of the equipment in his basement. The timing was just right, as Schlicht was ready to sell the machinery and Hengel was ready to purchase it; he paid $1,500 for everything. ... "
