Remains from Roman structures west of the mosque proper. They lead from a souq (Suq al-Hamidiye) to its west to a small open space, then to the mosque. It is sometimes identified as the "Temple of Jupiter". But that was a very much larger temple, the current Ummayad Mosque was built later on a part of its space. To its west a series of columns or propylaeum led to its western entrance, and that is what one sees nowadays.
