Békéscsaba Orthodox late baroque, one-nave St. Nicholas Church. Other name: Greek Orthodox Roman Church; Saint Nicholas Roman Orthodox Church. The Greek Orthodox parish of Békéscsaba was founded in 1820. The shingle-roofed church was built by Greek-Romanian-Serbian-Bulgarian believers in 1837-1838 with the cooperation of mason József Czigler and master carpenter József Papp. In 1878, a tin roof was made. In 1928 the church was restored and the tower received a completely new gilded cross with new documents, including copies of the original documents. Its iconostasis is a work by Stefan Teneczki, made in 1789 (elsewhere 1780) and brought from Arad County; repainted in the early 20th century. The icons of the iconostasis painted on wood with tempera are inscribed in Romanian inscriptions in Cyrillic script and are made in the style of the Kiev school of painting. The 34 icons can be divided into four zones: 1. Gospel event and scene from the hagiography of St. Nicholas. 2. Throne icons. 3. Apostles. In the central axis: New Testament Trinity. 4. Prophets. Golgotha cross composition. On the Royal Door: Good News. Above: Last Supper. On the north deacon's door: Archangel Michael. Above: Expulsion from Paradise. At the south deacon's door: Deacon St. Stephen. Above: The Beheading of St. John the Baptist. Above the gallery is a tower (22 meters high) with a baroque helmet with a pillow shape. The church is in late Baroque and Empire style. The murals/seccos from 1912? It was restored in 1947 by Márton L. (made elsewhere!), it was badly damaged in an arson attack in 2007, and during the renovation in the 2010s, Romanian artists painted frescoes in Byzantine style on the ceiling of the church. A békéscsabai görögkeleti egyházközség 1820-ban alakult. A zsindelytetős templomot Czigler József kőműves- és Papp József ácsmester közreműkődésével görög-román-szerb-bolgár hívők építették 1837-1838-ban. 1878-ban bádogtető készült. 1928-ban a templomot újra tatarozták, a torony pedig teljesen új, aranyozott keresztet kapott, amelyben újabb dokumentumokat helyeztek el, köztük az eredeti okmányok másolatait. Kisméretű templom, háromtengelyű, deszkaborításos síkmennyezetű hajó. Ikonosztáza Stefan Teneczki alkotás, 1789 (máshol 1780-as) készült az Arad megyei Siklóról hozták, de táblaképeit a 20. század elején átfestették. A fára, temperával festett ikonok cirill betűs román feliratozásúak, és a kijevi festőiskola stílusában készültek. Az 34 ikon négy zónára osztható: 1. A templom késő barokk és empire stílusú. Az 1912-ből származó falképeket/szekkókat? 1947-ben Márton L. restaurálta /máshol készítette!/ 2007-es gyújtogatásban súlyosan megsérült, a 2010-es években felújítás során román művészek bizánci stílusú freskókat festettek a templom mennyezetére. 2014-ben a templomot újraszentelték.
