Production of the Stevens-Duryea automobile started in 1901 as a department of the J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Premises were part of the former Overman Wheel Company now owned by Stevens Arms.

The Stevens-Duryea Company' was organized in 1906, and sold, together with Stevens Arms, to investors in 1919. Automobile manufacturing followed without founder J. Frank Duryea and Stevens Arms in the style of Stevens-Duryea, Inc. the company survived until 1927. In 1920, Rauch & Lang Electric automobiles were added, an in 1922, Rauch & Lang Electric taxi cabs, which were technically unrelated to the former auztomobile were added with little success. The company survived until 1927.
