This series consists of the correspondence of day school inspector J. J. Duncan. The letters were received by the inspector from off-reservation Indian schools, reservation teachers, private parties, parents of students, administrators of other Indian agencies, missionaries, district ("additional") farmers, and public school officials. There are also some copies of letters sent by the inspector to these correspondents, as well as circulars sent to teachers.

The correspondence concerns specific students at on- or off-reservation schools, reservation day school administration, and all aspects of the agency's education policy. The circulars (dated March 4, 1910-June 17, 1912) originate from the inspector, the superintendent, or the Office of Indian Affairs. They concern such matters as leave policy; pupil health; property inventories; religious observations; books; conditions of employment; gardens; schedules; and other matters pertaining to Indian education.
