English: Utility poles — are poles used to support overhead power lines and other public utilities.
-
- They are used for carrying utilities: such as lower voltage power transmission and communications wires, media cables, and fiber optic cables; and for mounting equipment, such as transformers and street lights.
- Also colloquially referred to as telephone poles, power poles, telegraph poles — commonly 'misused' as these names refer to a single utility's usage, that is rare in settled areas with multiple use poles.
- Higher voltage power transmission lines are carried on steel pylon transmission towers.
