A photo and film expedition in North Africa. The expedition was initiated by chocolate manufacturer Van Houten, who wanted to capture the harvest of cocoa beans in Gold Coast, now Ghana, for a corporate film. The planned expedition received an extensive press and was waved goodbye in Amsterdam on 28 November 1951 by Mayor d'Ailly of Amsterdam and Mayor Bührmann of Weesp. In a refurbished old army vehicle, six expedition members left for Accra, the final destination of the journey, traversing the Sahara from north to south. The team also went back to the Mediterranean via the same route to return to their home base via Paris and Brussels. The expedition had lasted four months and returned to Amsterdam in April 1952.
