Glass by Alan Younger. Series of 3 windows similar in design, commissioned in 1992 and given by the Duke of Westminster of Eaton Hall, Cheshire, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the Cathedral, founded in 1092/3 by his ancestor Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester (c. 1047-1101), nicknamed le Gros (the Fat) or Lupus (the Wolf), as the Abbey of St Werburgh (from 1541 Chester Cathedral) in the City of Chester. It/they is/are a replacement window as the original was damaged during enemy action over Chester in the 2nd World War. Some of the glass from the original has been incorporated into the design. Showing disjointed elements from the augmented coat of arms of the Duke of Westminster (Grosvenor family).
