English: Statue of Hygieia. Pentelic marble. Found in Zappeion, Athens. The goddess is depicted frontally, wearing a sleeved chiton and a himation. Her sacred animal, the snake, is slithering in front of her breast toward her right hand, where the goddess would have held a bowl. The statue belongs to the type known as the Hope Hygieia and is a copy made in the 2nd c. AD of an original from the early 4th c. BC. (from the museum's description).
