ID number go's away

[edit]

Hi, if I have the German version and switch language (English) the ID disappears, like for example, from:
"Dieses Objekt ist verzeichnet im Archaeological Survey of Ireland unter der SMR No. KE004-03100
Geographisches Informationssystem des National Monuments Service: Historic Environment Viewer – Datensatz"

to:
"This object is indexed in the Archaeological Survey of Ireland but the SMR number is currently not known." ... ???

switching back brings the same unknown ID status in German now:
"Dieses Objekt ist verzeichnet im Archaeological Survey of Ireland, jedoch ist die SMR No. noch nicht eingetragen."

Refreshing/Reloading the page gives back the correct information with known ID ?

I'm wrong or the template not correct???

Hi Commander-pirx, how do you switch to another language? Per Special:Preferences? --AFBorchert (talk) 15:36, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AFBorchert: the template has below the two language opt's ... by clicking/switching; br --Commander-pirx (talk) 15:38, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
ps: is should have started in "Template:Archaeological_Survey_of_Ireland", sorry;but to illustrate: see for ex. Category:Ballymalis_Castle: by opening it gives one the ID number as set by myself, by clicking the language options below - the ID disappears, resulting in the unknown ID text...
@Commander-pirx: This is normal behaviour. If you follow these links, you can access the corresponding text in another language. But, of course, the links are gone. If you really want to see the template with correct links in another language you have either to switch the language in your preferences or to specify the language preference in the URL using the uselang parameter. See de vs. en. --AFBorchert (talk) 15:52, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AFBorchert: : thanks for info, but not completely understood. What does someone else (than me) see, if he opens the category? br, --Commander-pirx (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Commander-pirx: They see the template including the links in the language they selected in their preferences, provided that language is supported. Please note that {{Archaeological Survey of Ireland}} uses the {{Autotranslate}} mechanism. This works all perfectly well. However, if you follow the small language links at the bottom of the template, you end up at the template with the corresponding text in a particular language. At that point the template parameters are gone and thereby the links. You follow these links only if you want to fix a typo or if you want to give a better translation. And if you use the “+/-” link you can add a translation in another language. --AFBorchert (talk) 16:08, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AFBorchert: : these seems a tiny bit misinterpreting prob's for me; I see the language links below as "offer" to switch between German or English. As long as everyone sees the ID by entering the category its fine for me. thanks again, --Commander-pirx (talk) 16:18, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Commander-pirx: I understand that this can be somewhat confusing, in particular if you want to test a template. But these links have a reason. If some text is coming from some deeply nested template, you should be able to edit it. After all, this is a wiki! And the Edit button for the page won't help you here as the text is not included in the wiki markup of this page. This is the reason why text templates come with some minor links that provide the links for editing them. --AFBorchert (talk) 16:28, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AFBorchert: : I'm getting the french translation (from native speaker) soon - how can I add this? Merci --Commander-pirx (talk) 07:27, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Commander-pirx: Please follow the instructions at Template:Archaeological Survey of Ireland#Translating this template to other languages, i.e. create Template:Archaeological Survey of Ireland/fr similar to {{Archaeological Survey of Ireland/en}} and update {{Archaeological Survey of Ireland/lang}}. Thanks for helping out! Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 07:48, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@AFBorchert: : Gemacht, fr:Template done - Danke für ein mal drüber schauen... br --Commander-pirx (talk) 12:39, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

towhomitmayconcern AND @AFBorchert: : An Italian version is added as well. br --Commander-pirx (talk) 08:59, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mille grazie! --AFBorchert (talk) 19:59, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
