I oppose the move proposal. The reason for the hyphen in the name is to a) make sure that the relevant categories are shown in HotCat when writing the main word "Riksdag", and b) get shorter category names. What policies oppose the hyphen solution? /Urbourbo (talk) 17:51, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think any policy oppose this. The only policy I know about category names is that they should usually be in English, and that is not a problem here. I don't know if this is written somewhere but I have got the impression (from browsing categories and discussions) that category names try to be consistent through the category tree for the same type of categories. For example History of Sweden -> History of Stockholm -> History of the Riksdag. I also think category names are usually are phrases that one would use to describe the content of the category. As in "This category is about the history of the Riksdag". Fewer people would say "This category is about Riksdag - history". I think that is the same as Wikipedia articles would not be named "Riksdag - history".
When writing "Riksdag" in HotCat one can not be sure that all relevant categories are names like that. Using hotcat to look for subcategories of Category:Riksdag will find the relevant categories regardless of their names.
I don't think my suggestion will make the category name very long. /Ö 16:59, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The background to my argument is a major categorising effort of probably over one hundred new tourist images categorised in the Stockholm root category and with no further descriptions. Hence, the importance, I believe, of making categorising as simple as ever possible; if not for the tourist photographers, then at least for guys like myself and other participants in the Swedish Wikipedia Stockholm project, who endeavour to use our scarce time to clean up the mess. /Urbourbo (talk) 17:48, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support moving per Ö's arguments. I don't think we should choose category names based on the quirks of whatever gadgets happen to be popular at any given time. As stated in Commons:Naming categories: Names of Commons categories should be optimized for readers over editors. The modularity principle, laid out in the same guideline, also applies here in favor of renaming. LX (talk, contribs) 18:04, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
