May 2021[edit]

Category:Orthodox crosses really shouldn't redirect to (nor be a subcategory of) category:Eastern Orthodox crosses. Ethiopian Orthodoxy, for example, is part of Oriental Orthodoxy, and neither of these are part of Eastern Orthodoxy (they are all, however, parts of Eastern Christianity). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:41, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gyrofrog: I agree. I just did not have the energy to click and manually change each of the categories when I moved the category. The category "Orthodox crosses" should be deleted. Veverve (talk) 19:44, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: , I am not sure about deleting it -- we could use it as a superset, which would include Category:Eastern Orthodox crosses and Category:Oriental Orthodox crosses. (I believe there are other Orthodox churches, mainly in India, that are neither Eastern nor Oriental Orthodox, but whose crosses would also go in Category:Orthodox crosses -- assuming there are, or will be, any media files; I really don't know) -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:19, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gyrofrog: There is not "Orthodox" general category which contains Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy in real life, please see also what I wrote here. Therefore, the category should be deleted, or redirect to the E. Orthodox category. Veverve (talk) 08:45, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: Understood -- but what we end up with, is that Category:Orthodox crosses by country will presumably move under Category:Eastern Orthodox crosses when the rest of the subcategories are moved. That means that Category:Orthodox crosses in the United States would go under there, regardless of whether the cross is Eastern or Oriental Orthodox (right now, though, I'm not sure there are any Oriental Orthodox crosses in this category). Similarly, if/when we ever have "Category:Orthodox crosses in Ethiopia" or "Category:Orthodox crosses in Egypt" (right now, neither of these exist) then these would most likely contain Oriental Orthodox crosses, although they'd (presumably) go under "Category:Orthodox crosses by country" which will roll up to "Category:Eastern Orthodox crosses" (the alternative would be to make these categories like "Category:Oriental Orthodox crosses in Ethiopia", etc.). Unless there's some way to move the various subcategories that are still underneath "Category:Orthodox crosses" over to Category:Eastern Christianity, but that's missing some categories that would need to be in between. Right now I'm not sure what this affects, if anything, but it would need to be straightened out sometime. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:37, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gyrofrog: yes, all those categories should be moved to their E. Orthodox version. An Oriental Orthodox version should should be created in case if there is O. Orthodox crosses, to separate them. It is a long and tedious process. Also, this discussion might interest you. Veverve (talk) 18:58, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
