Hi, I am an admin on He-Wikipedia. I'd like to help with translations, problematic POV images and descriptions. I have received some requests from our local He-Wikipedia and felt I will be useful as an admin. Yonidebest 15:15, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Votes - Nomination canceld - user has less than 200 edits

Comments

Only 21 edits on Commons at time of nomination; that's quite far below the minimum of 200. Cnyborg 17:23, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the minimum requirement mentioned anywhere... Yellow up 17:47, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Commons:Administrators#What is expected from an administrator?. – rotemlissTalk 17:48, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I guess this nomination has to be canceled. Yellow up 17:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty easy to make the guess that this nomination came as a result of the NPOV dispute. While adminship might not be the best route to take to solve that (anyone can re-upload images and propose deletion of the badly named one, and admins can just delete at will), I looked through the list of admins, and found only one identified as a Hebrew-speaker, and that at level 2 (intermediate level). Getting an admin with Hebrew as his/her first language would be a good idea for several reasons; on a multilingual projects, we need admins with a wide variety of linguistic backgrounds and of course there is the issue of trust between Commons and Hebrew Wikipedia. Either finding someone who fulfills the requirements, or contributing to Commons with a focus on clean-up work and assisiting other users (i.e. typical admin tasks) so that the requirements are met, would probably lead to a successful nomination. I disagree. This is the correct way to solve the NPOV dispute. Drork tried to remove the POV descriptions by changing them to a tern acceptable by the work community. One of the administrators reverted his contributions, protected the page and called him a vandalist. He also left anti Semitic remarks about Israel on several occasions. This is why I think I can contribute with fair and NPOV opinions and remove such offensive content from a Wikimedia foundation project.
I think that in this case, an exception should be taken in order to assure that anti Semitic image names and descriptions will not be handled as it is being handled up to now. My 21 edit will increase later on this month as I am quiting my job. Yonidebest 18:50, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There are clear policies about sysoping. You can't just ask to be a sysop, as exception of the policites, to do something which anybody else can do. The correct way to solve this NPOV dispute is re-uploading the images in another name (saying the name of the original uploader), and marking them as {{Duplicate}} – then some administrator will delete them. If you don't want to do it, don't complain that no one does it. – rotemlissTalk 20:04, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read my last comment? Drork tried to fix the descriptions but his efforts were reverted by an anti Semitic admin. I rather have someone who does not qualify, than have an anti Semitic admin raging around. Yonidebest 21:01, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As someone who is fluent in Hebrew and is familiar with Hebrew Wikipedia, I decided I should pass on some relevant information to people here at Wiki Commons about user Yonidebest:

  • Since the user offered to help with POV issues, it should be pointed out that he recently proposed a change in policy on Hebrew Wikipedia that was criticized by others as violating NPOV. In particular, the user initiated a vote in the Hebrew Wikipedia Parliament that any member of the Lebanese Hezbollah mentioned in a Hebrew Wiki article be referred to as a terrorist. The user further insisted that this was fully compliant with NPOV. After a prolonged discussion and amendments to the exact proposal, the vote was suspended and heavily criticized as a farce by other Wikipedians. The purpose in bringing this to your attention is not to play up a failed vote, but to bring forth relevant information about the way this user interprets NPOV policy. The discussion and vote are available here here, although be forwarned that it is in Hebrew.
  • This user has been a polarizing figure in Hebrew Wiki. Evidence of his polarizing nature can be seen in the results of his proposed candidacy for CheckUser on Hebrew Wikipedia. The vote, which was conducted in English, can be seen here. What is noteworthy is the unusually large number of negative votes this user received compared to the remaining five candidates, suggesting he has generated an exceptional degree of animosity among Hebrew Wiki users. The small number of votes in his favor is itself not informative; the rules of the vote allowed each person to vote in favor of only three candidates but against an unlimited number of candidates. The low number of votes in favor most likely reflects that other candidates were more popular rather than a lack of support among many Wikipedians.

Warning

Please be aware: This user who just failed to be an admin because he has less than 200 edits - abusing this community by "sending" many friends who does not really contribute here [1] of him to vote, now tries to exploit Wikimedia Commons. To prvoe my point look here ([2])": He wrote that he wants to make 200 edit by uploading images of another user to meet with the minumum requestment and then to became an admin in the same way. --Haham hanuka 19:31, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
