Commons:Ayuntamiento de Reynosa
Wikimedia México and the government of the town of Reynosa, which is located in the north border of Mexico, next to the citiy of McAllen, Texas, to celebrate its 265 aniversary of foundation have worked together to share some digital images from its town archive of some historic documents related to the history of Mexico and some pictures of the life of that city in past decades.

Reynosa is a border city in the northern part of Tamaulipas, Mexico. It is located on the southern bank of the Rio Grande, directly across the border from Hidalgo, Texas in the United States. Reynosa is the largest and most populous city in the state of Tamaulipas. The en:Reynosa–McAllen Metropolitan Area counts with a population of roughly 1,700,000 habitants, making it the third largest metropolitan area in the Mexico–U.S. border. Reynosa is the 30th largest city in Mexico and anchors the largest metropolitan area in Tamaulipas.
Reynosa was founded in 14 March 1749 by Carlos Cantú and move of location on 4 July 1802. Its first name was Villa de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Reynosa. Between 1846 and 1848, Reynosa was captured and temporarily held by the United States Army. 1926 Reynosa was recognized as a city.
The project[edit]
In February 2014, the city hall of Reynosa contacted to Wikimedia Mexico to show its intention in collaborate with this organization to have some activities in that city to help the Wikimedia projects grow and increase the free knowledge about the city of Reynosa. Besides some activities as and edit-a-thon and a local picture contest. Wikimedia Mexico proposed to upload to Commons some digital images from the documents sheltered in the city town archive. Some of them with centuries of age. The local authorities accepted the proposal and the civil servants of the archive kindly select a few important documents and provide the digital images. Wikimedia Mexico give its advice to create the official account of the government of Reynosa and training to upload archives to Commons. The delivery ceremony was held on March 29, 2014.
