Principles

1. Try to keep the depth of the tree low. It is better to have one category with 20 items than another 3 levels of subcategory with only 2 items in the end.
2. Don't try to build a unique browsing path; let people be free to choose the more adeguate browsing path; for example Category:Rivers of Lazio can be reached from Category Lazio and from Geography of Italy
3. Don't leave photos in intermediate categories if a more suitable category exists: for example don't categorize a photo of Florence just with Italy.

Italy - Regions (20) - Provinces (110) - Comune (Municipality or Township) (ca. 8,000) - Cities.

1. Category about Cities, town, villages, (all these entities refers to a municipality-comune ) should have three parent categories: the region, the province, and "Cities in Italy" category.
2. If the city, town or village doesn't have its own category, a gallery page should be created that has the three above-mentioned categories. You have a choice about whether to create a gallery or a category.
3. Villages ( frazioni ) or Districts ( quartieri ) should refer only to the city to which they belong.
