European Solidarity Centre permanent exhibition
Citizens of Gdańsk gathered in front of the historic Shipyard Gate no.2, by Krzysztof Korczyński

The European Solidarity Centre is a cultural institute, archive and museum devoted to the preservation of the heritage of the Polish Solidarity movement, the history of the Gdańsk Shipyard, activism and human rights within the context of Solidarity and within a wider European context. The Centre's permanent exhibition deals with the history of resistance against oppression in the communist era in Poland and the Solidarity movement.

Project history[edit]

The European Solidarity Centre began collaborating with Wikimedia Polska in July 2015 and is working towards releasing images of Solidarity photographers and current Centre documentation (recordongs of talks, videos and other material) on BY-SA licenses. The Museum staff are currently selecting the first batch of images for upload.

Technical and legal issues[edit]

Initially the European Solidarity Centre aims to share a set of photographs depicting the strikes of 1980, and videos recorded by ESC staff. The files will be released on open licenses.
