- The ruins Saint Titus basilica, built in 7th-8th century AC, when Gortyna was the capital of Crete, before it was destroyed by Arabs in 823. en:Saint Titus was an early Christian missionary and church leader, a companion and disciple of Paul the Apostle, who according to tradition was fist bishop of Crete.
