Portrait of a Man with a Medal of Cosimo the Elder - Sandro Botticelli
Thanks, I am seeing some scratches, perhaps the photo needs restoration before promotion Ezarateesteban 22:06, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is a 500 year old painting, and in my opinion the scratches are like the wrinkles of an old man. However, if you look at the other photos, they all have the same scratches. Thank you.--Commonists 22:23, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The photo is perfectly in focus and sharp and I'm not competing with anyone. Where are these huge, sharp google reproductions? Definitely the best on commons. Certainly this one on commons is the best. Thanks --Commonists 20:49, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can claim that my eyes are seeing unsharpness that's not there, but that's not a very convincing argument. If you look at the FPs in the category in which you've nominated the photo, you will see some examples that are not tack sharp at full resolution but quite a few that are. So start there. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:07, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am stating that the photo is sharp, your eyes are not my concern. I don't have to see other photos to see that my photo is sharp. So I'll end here. Thanks--Commonists 10:29, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just remember, I have the same eyes when I vote for your photos... -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:21, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is a painting of more than 500 years ago, probably the "unsharp" part you see is just ruined. Difference in views. Greetings.--Commonists 12:22, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Commonists, I believe Ikan Kekek is right, the corners in particular are not sharp (see for instance the cracks in the paint, which look blurry). If I may offer a suggestion for next time: don't shoot this lens at f1.8 when you need corner-to-corner sharpness, because its resolution wide open is abysmal anywhere except the centre ([1]). Instead, close down the aperture to f4 and let the shutter speed decrease to ~1/20s. The camera's image stabilisation should be able to handle that, but take a few shots just in case. -- Julesvernex2 (talk) 12:28, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
