Dome of the chapter house, Cathedral of Seville, Seville, Spain. The construction of the chapter house was started by Hernán Ruiz II but finished by Asensio de Maeda in 1592. The decoration of the dome is work of the prestigious painter Murillo and dates from 1667. The 8 circular oil paintings show 8 saints from Seville (San Hermenegildo, San Fernando, San Leandro, San Isidoro, San Laureano, Santa Justa, Santa Rufina y San Pio), whereas the bigger rectangular picture in the center depicts the Immaculate Conception.
Actually, it was sort of a joke: El Greco possibly had astigmatism, which has been (read the link) put forth as an explanation for the increased tendency toward longitudinally distorted figures in his later work. So I wondered if, as this dome looks like a circular dome distorted that way, if he had designed it. Daniel Case (talk) 20:18, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
