Montage Python 3 upgrade[edit]

2024-04-26

After an extended period of minimal changes, we pushed a brand new backend which upgraded from the deprecated Python 2 runtime to Python 3.9. In addition to maintainability improvements, users will probably most appreciate:

  • Much faster load times for rounds
  • Restored support for loading from Google Sheets
  • Improved error messaging and monitoring

We look forward to hearing your feedback on the Montage Talk Page.

Montage slow/rounds not loading[edit]

2021-10-06

Memory quota increased, because of problems probably caused by resource limits.

New jurors cannot log in[edit]

2021-10-02

The new Let's Encrypt issuance chain is causing problems, more information is in phabricator:T291387.

2021-10-05

Temporary fix for the Montage tool was deployed, jurors should be able to log in again without SSL errors.

Toolserverdb is down[edit]

2020-12-16 17:00 UTC

The toolserver database has been down since approx. 5:00 pm UTC. It could take a few hours before it is back up again. (Phab:T266587 still)

Toolforge Database Maintenance[edit]

2020-11-10 16:00 UTC

Montage stopped working at 16:00 UTC on November 10, 2020 when Toolforge databases were put in read-only mode for maintenance.

We're back up and running.

New URL: montage.toolforge.org[edit]

2020-06-23 04:00 UTC

Montage moved to a new domain: montage.toolforge.org. Please update your bookmarks! The application is otherwise exactly the same, and nothing has changed. The legacy url (tools.wmflabs.org/montage) will redirect to the new domain as long as we are able.

Upcoming 2017 major release[edit]

2017-09-23 05:00 UTC

Just in time for Wiki Loves Monuments 2017, Montage will be rolling out a new production version, with many new and improved features. The new version will be located at https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage/meta/, superseding the site at https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage-beta/meta/, which has been used to judge WLE and many other contests over the last year. We're doing our best to incorporate all the great feedback we've been getting.

As of now, the backend is mostly complete, and the corresponding changes are underway. Join us in cheering on User:Yarl, and if you still have spare time, check out https://maps.wikilovesmonuments.org and maybe even add a few shots of your own!

Tools Labs outage[edit]

2016-10-18 17:00 UTC

Tools Labs appears to be down. We'll ensure Montage comes back up when Tools does. See the WMF Labs status page for extra details.

2016-10-18 17:40 UTC

And we're back up. Thanks for your patience.

Database connectivity issues[edit]

2016-10-02 17:49 UTC

Looking into reports of login failures (fails with error user about a missing username attribute on user.username). The issue is due to MySQL database connection loss. Currently adjusting timeouts and other configurable parameters.

2016-10-02 19:05 UTC

Configuration doesn't seem to address the issue, likely stemming from Labs uwsgi forking configuration poorly interacting with our MySQL driver. Technicalities aside, we're still working on it, this time with some help from Labs DevOps.

2016-10-02 19:49 UTC

With help from Ori.livneh, we've resolved most of the issues and while their may be a brief restart in the near future to clean up some of the dust, Montage appears to be working as intended.

Initial Release[edit]

2016-10-01 9:17 UTC

The initial release of Montage is now deployed and awaiting final steps to onboard its first users.
