Vatadoshu (talk) 09:27, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Allow user-deletion, or add a 'Proceed with Upload' button at the end.

Please, please either give the user the final choice whether or not to upload the image at the end of the process, OR allow a quick delete during a cooling-off period of at least a few hours. I could not understand the very convoluted deletion request process, and I realised, too late, that I had uploaded the wrong image containing the wrong copyrighted data. It will take me a while to create the correct version, so deletion - or halting the upload process BEFORE THE END - would have been immensely useful and sensible.Parkywiki (talk) 22:49, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

@Parkywiki: Being able to delete your own uploads yourself could be handy sometimes, but I don't think that'll happen any time soon due to the way user right are implemented in MediaWiki. I agree that not having the option to cancel an upload is totally stupid – there's already a bug report for this. However, as long as you haven't reached the "Use" step yet, you can – as far as I know – simply close your Browser tab/window and everything you've entered/uploaded so far will be discarded. --El Grafo (talk) 08:48, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, El Grafo. Let's hope someone sees common sense in due course. It's akin to having to commit to buying an item online before being able to read the full description and deciding whether it's really the right thing to purchase after all. I hadn't realised I could quit the browser and lose the image, though I had considered deleting all the licencing data, thus rendering it unacceptable for use. I've now replaced my image with the correct version with no risk of copyright ifringement - all I need to do know is learn how to request permanent deletion of the old image which may not have met WikiMedia's standards.Parkywiki (talk) 22:35, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

After a quick attempt at reproducing this with a file that isn't an MP4, I'm going to take a wild guess that you're using Firefogg to transcode videos on the fly, and that Firefogg is choking on the accents, not UploadWizard. If you could try updating Firefogg and filing a bug with them, I'd appreciate it. If they can't help, feel free to file a bug in UploadWizard at Phabricator. --MarkTraceur (talk) 15:01, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
MarkTraceur thanks for your response, ok if it is firefogg. Last update of firefogg was 25 august 2015.
I will send you the email i send to them.
No, i will not create a phabricator task, i don't know how to do.
But i still thinking, that upload wizard should show a popup signaling something goes wrong. Vatadoshu (talk) 11:34, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
For future reference (not needed in this case), see mw:How to report a bug for Phabricator information. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 11:08, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
AKlapper (WMF)hi, just to say to you to do not forget this task. I add send to firefogg an email to report them the problem, but they did not answer me. The problem still. Hope you will do something for that. Vatadoshu (talk) 19:24, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
@Vatadoshu: Hi, I do not know anything about Firefogg or who maintains that so I'm in the same position as you. :) http://firefogg.org/contact/index.html seems to imply that can you file bug reports on https://launchpad.net/firefogg - did you do that? If so, please provide a link to your bug report. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 11:02, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Description Drop Down Box only has German not English Option

I have installed this on my mediawiki site but the only language in the description drop down box is German. There is no default english or any other languages. How can I add english to the drop down box and delete the german option — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.28.140.107 (talk) 01:41, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

What exactly is "this" (link welcome) and how did you install it exactly (steps)? --89.176.24.220 12:28, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Vatadoshu (talk) 18:50, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

@Vatadoshu: I don't see anything wrong with this. The message says "You have selected a video file for uploading that is not in a free format. You can install Firefogg a Firefox extension to automatically convert your file. Or use other converting options to convert the video into a free format." Hence using Firefox is one available option, for other options (and Google Chrome) see the last sentence in that message and its link. --Malyacko (talk) 12:34, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
the problem is here "You can install Firefogg (a Firefox extension) to automatically convert your file." -> no i can't i have chrome :(
it should say: "if you are on mozilla firefox browser, you can install Firefogg extension ..."
"If you have another browser, ..."
the way it is said is important. Imagine people don't know firefox, or don't know that firefox is the same as mozilla, or if people think "hey perhaps i could install a module firefox on chrome". Or "perhaps i can use a firefox extension with any browser", or "i don't know what is firefox extension, but if it proposed me, it is because i can (it is written "you can")".
i understand in your response it is the same popup for any browser, but if so it need to be clear. (I thinked there were a popup different per browser).
Vatadoshu (talk) 15:47, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
@Vatadoshu: Feel free to file an enhancement request for UploadWizard to improve the wording. --Malyacko (talk) 08:22, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
